G2E and SBC Summit Collide: Gaming's Two Biggest Autumn Shows Run the Same Days in 2026

For the first time, the gaming industry's two largest autumn trade shows will run at the same time on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Global Gaming Expo (G2E) opens at The Venetian Expo in Las Vegas on Monday 28 September, and SBC Summit opens in Lisbon on Tuesday 29 September. Both close on Thursday 1 October. For companies that sell into both land-based and online gaming, that means splitting a team across a nine-hour time difference - or picking a side.

How the two shows ended up on the same days

The overlap is the product of two independent scheduling decisions that happened to cancel each other out.

SBC announced the change first. During its 2025 edition, which ran 16–18 September, the organiser told attendees that the 2026 summit would move roughly two weeks later to avoid mid-September Jewish religious holidays. G2E then moved in the opposite direction, landing a week earlier than its customary October slot.

The result was a near-total collision, and it surfaced only after both sets of dates were locked in. SBC confirmed in November 2025 that it would not move again, with founder and chief executive Rasmus Sojmark framing fixed dates as an obligation to exhibitors who plan a year ahead - <q>"Clarity and predictability, at least when it comes to dates, are vital,"</q> he said in a statement, adding that the company sees its role as serving the calendar rather than competing over it.

The audiences have historically been geographically distinct, which softens the blow. G2E draws heavily from North American commercial and tribal operators; SBC's Lisbon edition skews European and Latin American. The pressure falls hardest on three groups.

Full-stack suppliers. Apollo's $6.3bn combination of IGT's gaming business with Everi created the largest slot supplier in North America, AGS went private under Brightstar Capital, and Light & Wonder is now the only major US-listed pure-play gaming equipment maker. Fewer public companies means fewer public disclosures, and the trade show floor becomes a more important read on where each supplier actually stands.

The other subtext is intellectual property. Aristocrat and Light & Wonder settled their long-running Dragon Train dispute in January for $127.5m, with Light & Wonder acknowledging that Aristocrat maths information had been used in developing two titles and agreeing to withdraw them globally. Affiliates get their own show. The SBC Affiliate Leaders Summit runs as a fully standalone co-located event for the first time, with a separate programme, ticket and awards ceremony. The awards night takes place at the MEO Arena on Wednesday 30 September.

UK tax. Remote gaming duty doubled from 21% to 40% on 1 April, the largest single increase in British gambling tax history, and it lands squarely on online slots and casino. With the Autumn Budget set for 28 October, operators arrive in Lisbon three weeks before they learn whether the industry's lobbying for transitional relief has landed.

Regulated market expansion. Brazil's licensing regime, Alberta's newly opened iGaming market and the state-by-state US picture will fill panel slots across the eight conference stages.

Does the clash actually hurt?

Probably less than the calendar makes it look. The two shows serve different buyers in different regions, and the overlap is a single edition rather than a structural conflict. The measurable cost is concentrated: divided media coverage, a thinner news cycle for each individual product launch, and a handful of dual-market suppliers paying for two simultaneous stand builds and two travelling teams.

For everyone else, the practical effect is a single crowded week at the end of September, followed by a return to normal in 2027.
