Le Vampire Slot Review: 97.57% RTP, Blood Squares and a 15,000x Max Win

Quick verdict: Le Vampire is the 14th entry in Hacksaw Gaming's Le series and currently carries the highest RTP in the studio's entire catalogue at 97.57%. Blood Squares and the Epic symbol upgrade system add genuine new layers to the Golden Squares formula — but that headline RTP comes with a serious asterisk you need to read before you play.

What Is Le Vampire?

Le Vampire is a 6x5 cluster pays slot from Hacksaw Gaming starring Smokey the Raccoon — the studio's mascot, who has already been an outlaw, a fisherman, a palaeontologist and a nightclub owner. Here he gets fangs, a cape and the run of a gothic castle as Count Smokey.

The art direction plays it entirely for laughs. Bats, coffins, cartoon blood splashes and a very silly raccoon, moving from house to graveyard to grand hall. Nobody is getting scared. Whether that is a strength or a missed opportunity depends on what you wanted from a vampire slot — but it is consistent with everything else in the series.

The one visual complaint worth raising: the Rainbow and Clover symbols have been dropped in unchanged from other Le games. Hacksaw gave those icons thematic makeovers in Le Bunny and Le Clubber, so their generic appearance here breaks the mood slightly.

Le Vampire RTP: Read This Before You Play

This is the most important section in the review, so it goes first.

Le Vampire's top build returns 97.57%, which makes it the highest-RTP game Hacksaw Gaming has released. That number is doing a lot of marketing work across the internet right now.

The catch is that five different RTP builds exist, and the operator chooses which one it runs:

Build RTP
Top 97.57%
Default (widely deployed) 96.36%
Reduced 94.30%
Reduced 92.31%
Minimum 86.27%

That is a spread of more than eleven percentage points on the same game. Many casinos deploy the 96.36% version rather than the 97.57% one, and the 86.27% build is a genuinely punishing configuration.

Check the info screen before your first spin. If it does not say 97.57% or at minimum 96.36%, play somewhere else. Feature buy RTPs sit around 96.25%–96.26% and FeatureSpins around 96.12%–96.36%, so the buys do not inherit the top figure either.

Volatility, Max Win and Hit Rate

Hacksaw rates Le Vampire medium volatility — 3 out of 5 on its own scale. The hit rate is roughly 35%, so something lands on about one spin in three. That is a comfortable, steady rhythm compared to the studio's more brutal releases.

The max win is 15,000x your stake. Respectable, though below Le Cowboy's 25,000x and well short of Hacksaw's high-ceiling titles. Combined with the medium volatility rating, Le Vampire is built for grind and accumulation rather than one apocalyptic spin.

Bets run from $/€0.05 to $/€50, with additional bonus bets and buy options layered on top for higher stakes.

How Le Vampire Works

Wins form when five or more matching symbols connect on the 6x5 grid — no paylines.

The Super Cascade system is the important twist. When a cluster wins, the game removes not only the winning symbols but every instance of that symbol type on the grid, wherever it sits. New symbols drop in, and the process repeats while wins keep forming. This clears far more of the board than a standard cascade, which is what makes the Golden Squares mechanic below viable.

Symbols and Paytable

Low pays are J, Q, K and A. Premiums are Fangs, Crosses, Skulls and Revolvers, each of which also has a blood-spattered Epic version.

For clusters of 14 or more:

Symbol tier Payout
Royals (J–A) 50x
Regular premiums 75x–100x
Epic premiums 150x–200x

The Epic Revolver at 200x is the top regular symbol payout. Wild, Scatter, Rainbow and Epic Rainbow round out the special symbols.

Golden Squares and Blood Squares Explained

This is the mechanic that made the Le series famous, and it runs in a strict sequence. Take it slowly the first time.

Step 1 — Squares are marked. After a winning combination resolves, the positions behind the winning symbols are highlighted as Golden Squares.

Step 2 — A Rainbow activates them. When a Rainbow symbol lands, it activates all currently marked Golden Squares. An Epic Rainbow goes further and marks every position on the grid as a Golden Square before activating.

Step 3 — Squares reveal special symbols. Activated squares can contain Coins, Green or Gold Clovers, Bags of Gold or Pots of Gold.

Coin Value
Bronze 0.2x – 4x
Silver 5x – 10x
Gold 20x – 50x
Diamond 100x – 500x

Step 4 — Clovers multiply. Green Clovers multiply adjacent Coins, Bags and Pots by x2–x20. Gold Clovers multiply everything on the grid by x2–x20.

Step 5 — Bags collect. Each Bag of Gold collects the values of all Coins, Bags and Pots in its surrounding 3x3 area and stores the total. Collected squares can then reveal new symbols, and the process repeats. A Bag only activates once.

Step 6 — Pots collect. Pots of Gold work identically but sweep the entire grid rather than a 3x3 area.

Step 7 — Payout. Everything in view is awarded and the squares clear.

What Are Blood Squares?

The new addition for Le Vampire. Epic Rainbow symbols can trigger Blood Rain, which marks every grid position as a Blood Square instead of a Golden Square.

Blood Squares behave identically with one crucial difference: they never reveal Bronze Coins. Since Bronze is the 0.2x–4x junk tier, removing it lifts the floor on every reveal. It is not a transformative mechanic, but it meaningfully improves the quality of a full-grid activation.

Le Vampire Free Spins: Three Bonus Modes

All three rounds award 10 free spins and stack on top of each other. Scatter count decides which one you get.

Coffin Break — 3 Scatters

The entry tier. Golden and Blood Squares now stay highlighted until a Rainbow activates them, rather than clearing each spin — so you can build up a loaded board.

The Epic upgrade system also switches on here. After a premium symbol wins, every symbol of that type is permanently upgraded to its Epic version for the rest of the round. A Symbol Bar outside the grid tracks this:

Level Reward
1 +2 free spins
2 +2 free spins
3 +2 free spins
4 +2 free spins and a guaranteed Rainbow or Epic Rainbow next spin

Once a symbol is Epic, any win involving it marks the winning positions as Blood Squares rather than Golden Squares. Hitting all four upgrade levels is difficult, but the payoff compounds.

Love At First Bite — 4 Scatters

Everything from Coffin Break, plus Golden and Blood Squares stay highlighted even after being activated. When an Epic Rainbow fires, only the squares that existed before activation remain afterwards — so the board keeps its accumulated progress instead of resetting.

Do Your Fang — 5 Scatters (Hidden Bonus)

The top tier, and it is not purchasable — five scatters is the only route in. On top of everything in Love At First Bite:

This is where the 15,000x lives.

Le Vampire Feature Buys

Five options, which is a lot even by Hacksaw standards:

Buy Cost What you get
BonusHunt FeatureSpins 3x Each spin is 5x more likely to trigger a bonus
Coffin Break 60x The 3-scatter bonus round
Rainbow Bite FeatureSpins 75x Guaranteed Rainbow or Epic Rainbow, minimum 1x Coins
Love At First Bite 250x The 4-scatter bonus round
Rainbow Epic Drop FeatureSpins 500x Guaranteed Epic Rainbow, minimum 1x Coins

Note that Do Your Fang cannot be bought. The best round in the game is scatter-only. Also worth flagging: the 500x Rainbow Epic Drop buys a single enhanced spin, not a bonus round — do not confuse it with the 250x Love At First Bite. Feature buys are unavailable in the UK and several other regulated markets.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

Playing the Le Vampire Demo

The demo is essential here, because the layered sequence — squares, Rainbows, Clovers, Bags, Pots, Epic upgrades — takes a few rounds to click. Watch one full Epic Rainbow activation resolve and it will make sense.

Then, before playing for real, open the info screen and confirm the RTP. On a game with an eleven-point spread between builds, that check is worth more than any strategy.

Final Verdict

Le Vampire is the strongest Le release in a while, which is faint praise for a series 14 games deep, but it is earned. Blood Squares and the Symbol Bar are not revolutionary, yet they are integrated properly rather than bolted on, and they give the bonus rounds a sense of progression the series has sometimes lacked. The escalation from Coffin Break to Do Your Fang is well judged.

The theme is the safest possible choice and the mechanical bones are borrowed from Le Granny, so anyone already fatigued by Le releases will not be converted. But if you enjoy persistent-grid cluster games, this is a well-built one with an exceptional return — assuming you find it on the right build.

Rating: 7.5/10 — a genuinely good cluster pays slot carrying the best RTP Hacksaw has published, undercut by how easily operators can strip that advantage away.
